Espionage, strategy, and secrecy—those are the skills of a ninja. Dressed in all black for maximum stealth, these silent warriors are famous for their ambush attacks and disappearing acts. In movies, we see them flying through the air, sword in hand, using their shurikens or “throwing stars” to pin enemies down with perfect precision. Who wouldn’t be amazed, right? We bet at one point you’ve wanted to be ninja yourself! If so, then it’s your lucky day! Every year, on the 5th of December, we celebrate International Ninja Day—a special day where, in honor of the extraordinary abilities of these […] Read more »

Do you love pie? If so, then you’re in luck! It’s National Pie Day and everyone is encouraged to celebrate the occasion by baking, cooking, or buying their favorite pie! National Pie Day was founded by an engineer, brewer, and teacher named Charlie Papazian in 1975 when he declared that the special day be observed every 23rd of January—his birthday. However, because pie is such a crowd favorite, it’s also celebrated on the 1st of December! Pretty amazing, right? While most would think there’s a deeper meaning behind the pie-filled holiday, it’s actually just born out of Papazian’s love for […] Read more »

Thanksgiving is one of the most treasured holidays in the United States—it’s also one of the busiest. Everything, from grocery shopping and food prepping to setting up home decorations and sending out invitations, needs careful planning. However, for pet parents, there are a few more things to consider. Thanksgiving is a food-centered celebration and with most pets being avid eaters, it’s so easy for them to accidentally ingest something that they shouldn’t. On top of that, strangers going in and out of the household can lead to feelings of stress, anxiety, and discomfort to some pets. We believe that pets […] Read more »

Packed in olive oil, tomato sauce, water, butter, or even mustard, sardines are one of the most widely consumed foods in the world. Although not everyone is a fan of their texture and smell, sardines are favored by most because of how inexpensive and convenient they are. However, that’s not all. Sardines are also known for being packed with vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin B12, which helps maintain normal brain and nerve function; and copper, which helps the body create healthy red blood cells. Who knew such a tiny fish could have so many health benefits, right? In celebration of […] Read more »

Today is November 21st, also known as National Stuffing Day! The first mention of stuffing was actually in the Roman cookbook, Apicius De Re Coquinaria, and now, National Stuffing Day is observed annually. Traditional Thanksgiving stuffing is made with dried bread, onions, celery, seasonings, spices, and herbs. Many people also put meat or giblets from animals into the mixture as well. Stuffing received its name due to the fact that the ingredients are often stuffed into an animal or other foods, like turkey, chicken, or pork. While most people think of stuffing as the food associated with Thanksgiving Day, there […] Read more »

National Pickle Day is observed annually on November 14th. The history of the pickle goes way back to around 2030 B.C. when cucumbers were just starting to be pickled in India. Even though the food started in India, the Dutch are the ones who can take credit for the name. The original name, “peke,” translates to “brine.” Fitting, right? Whether you prefer Dill, Gherkin, Cornichon, Brined, Kosher Dill, Polish, Hungarian, Lime, Bread and Butter, Swedish, or Danish, grab a jar of your favorite type of pickles and celebrate today with a crunchy snack!   What Is A Pickle? A pickle […] Read more »

This national holiday was submitted by Terry Simons, a well-respected and popular dog agility trainer and competitor who lost his furry best friend, Reveille, to lymphoma in 2011.  Simons felt the need to educate himself about the disease and wanted to help others who may be going through the same thing. He created CLEAR (Canine Lymphoma Education Awareness and Research), a 501(C)3 non-profit dedicated to increasing the awareness and understanding of canine lymphoma through clinical research, as well as arming dog owners with the knowledge of prevention and treatment of this devastating disease.   What Is Canine Lymphoma?
