It is surprising to think that in 2018 many people still believe that the only place to find a purebred dog is by locating a breeder and buying the animal from them. Surprisingly the statistics show that upwards of 25% of dogs in animal shelters across the country are purebreds so saying that you have to go to a breeder to find a purebred animal is definitely a myth. One of the long-standing myths in animal rescue today, and one that is still perpetuated in the general public has to do with nomenclature. Everywhere you go you’ll see the term local Humane Societies or Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and many people do not give the term a second thought as they choose a reputable animal rescue organization to work with. We’ve heard it, and probably said it at some time before, “Rescue people are crazy.” They spend thousands of hours trying to pull animals, raise funds, transport and do home visits. Pictures are posted by the thousands (some of which are horrific) in an effort to raise awareness to the plight of these defenseless creatures. They drain their bank accounts, and retirement savings in an effort to save one more animal.
